Connector Terminal Grooving: Balancing High-Mix Changeover and Efficiency

Connector terminals come in endless varieties with fast iteration — the core challenge is quick changeover across high mix while keeping mass-production efficiency.

Quick change: choose modular tooling and quick-change fixtures to cut changeover from hours to minutes; the machine should recall parameters in one touch, with programmed parameter sets per terminal type to eliminate manual re-entry errors.

Parameter management: build a standard parameter card per terminal model (depth, feed, tooling, inspection thresholds) and lock it in the CNC; on changeover, load the set and confirm the first article before running the batch.

Efficiency balance: single-side basic models suffice for small-batch varieties; double-side or multi-axis models for main high-volume items. Larger plants often run two machines — one for high-mix small-batch, one dedicated to volume — getting both flexibility and throughput.

Quality: critical dimensions (e.g. contact-area grooves) rely on real-time inspection with alarm thresholds; sample and record regularly to build a terminal quality database that feeds process improvement.
