Grooving Machine Maintenance Guide: Weekly, Monthly and Quarterly Checklists
A grooving machine is precision equipment — neglected maintenance accelerates accuracy loss and breakdowns. Follow this schedule and keep records.
Weekly: clean bed and guideway oil; check and top up lubrication; check coolant concentration and level; clear chip removal; visually inspect tools.
Monthly: lubricate guideways and ballscrews (manufacturer-specified grease); check belt tension and wear; tighten electrical connections; test e-stop and guard interlocks; verify real-time inspection sensor sensitivity.
Quarterly: verify machine geometry (guideway straightness, spindle squareness) and adjust; check ballscrew backlash and compensate; replace hydraulic/pneumatic filters (if fitted); deep-clean the CNC cabinet fans and filters; inspect grounding and cable aging.
Special cases: after long shutdown, warm up at low manual speed for 10-15 minutes before production; watch ambient temperature/humidity across seasons to protect the CNC system. Digitize maintenance records and manage them alongside the tool log for full visibility.
