Single-Side vs Double-Side CNC Grooving Machines: Which to Choose

Choosing between single-side and double-side grooving machines is often simplified to "double-side is faster", but the real answer depends on workpiece and capacity. Wrong configuration means wasted capacity or overspending.

Workpiece: parts needing grooves on one face only (e.g. some blades with a single slot) suit single-side machines; double-side adds unnecessary clamping complexity. Double-side or multi-axis pays off for parts needing both faces or multiple grooves per piece.

Takt: for high-volume parts with many slots and strict cycle times, double-side multi-axis completes all operations in one clamping, roughly doubling efficiency. For high-mix small-batch work, single-side basic models change over faster and cost less.

Investment and upgrade: Zhongtong machines are modular — start with single-side 2-axis and add spindles later as business grows, without replacing the whole machine. Size the configuration to today's peak capacity and keep headroom for expansion.
